Hearing: Cambridge Area: Eastern Presiding TC: Gillian Ekins EASTERN deputy traffic commissioner (TC) Gillian Ekins has curtailed the 0-licence of Cambridge transport firm AOB Transport by one vehicle for a month due to mechanical failings.
At a public inquiry (PI) in Cambridge last month, the TC said the firm would be limited to running four vehicles until 9 May.
A Vosa investigation found that in the five years preceding the PI, vehicles operated by the business had received 32 prohibitions. One notice issued in February 2007 showed a significant failure in maintenance systems, after 10 out of 10 wheel nuts were found loose. The annual MoT test history also revealed the firm's failure rate was above the national average.
AOB said its fleet had suffered a number of tyre defects because they visited scrap yards and land fill sites. However, the TC told the business that its professional competence had been tarnished by the findings. Clive Badcock's professional competence as transport manager had also been tarnished.
Summing up Deputy TC Ekins ordered Badcock to attend separate transport manager refresher and 0-licence awareness courses.
