Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

BRITISH Road Services Rescue is to double its fleet of recovery vehicles by 1981 — but it will not be establishing any new depots and agents will not have their franchise taken away.

This was made clear by BRS group marketing controller Gerry Simmons, speaking at the Association of Vehicle Recovery Operators' conference in Droitwich at the weekend.

He said that the company's work was divided between agents and BRS vehicles on a 50-50 basis and he added that the market potential for the national marketing of the recovery service was "enormous".

But he said that the recovery side of the BRS business was only a small part of the business revenue.

At present it was returning about 1.2 per cent of the company revenue and he was aiming to double the membership from its present 3,000.

Mr Simmons outlined the criteria that had led to ti setting-up of the Rescue SE vice. He said that operato had been looking for a servi giving roadside repair with towing and diagnostic servic They also required a loi re-delivery capacity with su port vehicles available necessary, plus a publish< tarriff and credit facilities.

Mr Simmons said that it w; overdue for the recovery i dustry to regain its credibilit "It is dating back to the 1974 era and this is a major que tion that we are looking at."
