made necessary an unprecedented expansion of our agricultural resources, has been responsible for bringing home to even the smaller class of farmer the advantages attendant upon the employment of power in its numerous applications in farm work, • In many instances it has been a case of the equipment being loaned over a period, but the Speed and facility with which normally slow operationa have been carried out, has not been lost upon the progressive type of agriculturist.

An instance of this is to be found in the acquisition, by Viscount Monck, of a two-way tipping trailer, which is intended for manure haulage. This piece of equipment was designed and built by Mr. C. F. Lambourne, Carryon • Works, Fordham, near Ely. Cambridge, and before starting on the work he consulted the maker of Pilot tipping gears, through Messrs. Halls Commercial Division, Standard House, Odeon Parade, Finchley, London, N.12, the sole distributor of Pilot tipping gears for London.

A two-way tipping trailer, deriving its power from the towing tractor, presented some new problems, and eventually, it was found that the Pilot standard twin-ram gear, model UGT, with only slight modifications, could be used.

• The mounting of the pump and oil container, release valve; and so on, is contained within the framework of the -turntable, and the adjustable drive-shaft, being disposed centrally, has been suitably adapted so as to be coupled to the power give—when such is fitted—of any farm tractor.

The arrangement has proved so satisfactory in service that, we understand, arrangements have been made for similar types of trailer to be made available in the near future. The model here dealt with was designed to carry 6-ton loads, the dimensions of the body being 12 ft. 6 ins. by 6 ft. 6 ins. by '2 ft.

The name and address of the maker of the tipping gear are Pilot 'Works, Ltd., Manchester Road, Bolton, Lancs:
