Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

PUBLIC transport will serve up to 5,000 more residents of Border Region later this year under plans announced by the regional council and the Scottish Bus Group.

Four goods-carrying midibus services will be operated for the council by Eastern Scottish and will radiate from Peel Hospital near Galashiels to the Berwick coast, Peebles, Hawick, and Kelso. They will operate be tween 9 am and 5 pm.

Eastern Scottish will buy five midibuses — the type has still to be decided — with seating capacity reduced to 16. A compartment at the rear will hold health board supplies such as water, blood, X-rays, and pharmaceutical items.

Talks are being held with manufacturers to determine accurate spring ratings for these special vehicles.

Border's assistant director of physical planning and development, Paul Gregory, told CM this week that the decision to launch these services — by the end of this year — followed a .15-month feasibility study.

This revealed that 50 vehicles were operated on various health board duties each day and that each department had its own separate system. There appeared to be potential for savings if the midibuses Were introduced.
