Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

LE PORT of Antwerp is pressing for harmonisation regulations for handling dangerous goods, because it feels ther safety nor economics is well 'served by the present tation.

n an article in the review tterland, K. Naulaers says t those involved in dangeis goods transport must ;otiate a maze of local, :ional and international ulations.

le criticises an "alarming k of uniformity and haraisation," saying that there wide variation in types of iger, danger labels, and ns of permissible packing. ae regulations, he says, are cure, badly drawn up and difficult to consult or bring up to date.

This situation, according to Mr Naulaers, is discouraging and confusing, and increases costs.

' Efforts are being made to update regulations, mainly by the United Nations and some of its agencies, and meantime the Port of Antwerp has adopted the code of International Maritime Dangerous Goods as its own. FURNELL Engineering of Spalding, Lincolnshire, has been appointed service dealer for DAF Trucks in the area.

Its three-acre site, with 6,000 square foot covered workshop area, will provide full commercial vehicle services. There is also a Smiths tachograph service facility, including a rolling road for calibration.

A 24-hour recovery and breakdown service will be provided in conjunction with DAFaid and the ITS system.
