a number of vehicle and trailer manufacturers since the Motor Show moved to the National Exhibition Centre in 1978, it will definitely be staying at the NEC well into the 1990s.
A newly-negotiated agreement between the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders and the NEC means that the Motor Show will be staged in Birmingham in 1988, 1990, 1992 and 1994, with an option to continue after that.
The SMMT says that the NEC's three new halls — due for completion in 1989 — will be occupied by the commercial vehicle section of the show.
While next year's show will be held as usual in October, from 1990 the SMMT plans to bring the show forward to September.
