A JOINT application by United Automobile Services Ltd, Darlington, and two independents, O.K. Motor Services Ltd, and F. Lockey and Sons Ltd, to provide a stage carriage service for new housing development in Bishop Auckland, was adjourned by the Northern Traffic Commissioners.

The chairman, Mr B. J Foster, said that although the Commissioners agreed with the proposals in principle they were concerned about the new estate roads and the matter could not be decided until these were made up.

The applicants had sought to run between the Market Place and Henknowle Farm Estate, operating every 30 minutes throughout the day Monday to Saturday and from midday on Sunday.

Mr D. Garnett, O.K.'s traffic manager, said it was planned to operate into the estate so far as it was completed.

The operators wanted to get in before the development was complete so that the residents would get into the habit of using the buses before they found alternative transport.

Opposing the applications on behalf of Durham County Council, Mr M. D. Gardiner, said the route roads were poor but a short-term grant would not be opposed if undertakings were given to use crewed buses. There was concern about omo buses reversing in culs-de-sac.
