Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

YET AGAIN lam amazed by the extremely restricted approach taken by driver training courses, as highlighted by your article 'Train Of Thought' (CM 12 January).

When it comes to the City & Guilds 3291 HGV Driver Certificate syllabus, there is much left to be desired. Where is the safe handling of materials.secure loading, recognition of the Working at Height Regulations, Or the imparting of knowledge regarding sensible and necessary anti-theft or counter-criminal precautions? As experienced professionals, do we not wish to pass on our expertise in defensive driving or consideration to other motorway users?

When are the academics in their ivory towers actually going to consult the lifetime practitioners before publishing these programmes that show an incredible lack of understanding of what is required of a C+E (HGV Class 1) driver in today's working environment?
