GEORGE GIBB, first managing director of Freightliners Ltd, died last week after a heart operation.

Mr Gibb, who retired in 1975, was a former vice-president of the Chartered Institute of Transport, and was a Road Transport Industry Training Board member from 1966/69.

He started his career with the London and North Eastern Railway in 1933, was general manager of the Freightliner division of British Rail in 1968, and became managing director of Freightliners Ltd when it became a National Freight Corporation subsidiary in 1969.

Mr Gibb became co-ordinator of the special traffics group and a member of the NFC board in 1972.
