Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

lAJOR service reorganisaons are on the way for West orkshire PTE and its neighouring operators.

The PTE is surveying the lain routes on its territory nd has already made hanges; will sell new cornined road and rail tickets in onjunction with NBC and ritish Rail; and is to hive off Aro of its persistently loss'taking subsidiaries.

Main service changes so far re to the Leeds-Otley and Leeds-Halifax corridors. The latter is a new link using single-deck buses on the motorway.

The combined day ticket will be valid on PTE, NBC and BR services and will be sold at off-bus sales points from Easter, if the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners agree. It will offer unlimited travel for a flat fare.

Meanwhile the PTE is selling two of its loss-making subsidiaries, Baddeley Brothers Ltd and Hanson Coach Service, which have both incurred "a significant loss" since they were taken over in 1976 and 1974 respectively.

West Yorkshire's passenger transport sub-committee has authorised the PTE to dispose of the two companies either as going concerns or as separate assets. They will attempt to honour existing contracts so far as is consistent with avoiding further losses.

"As a responsible organisation, the PTE has to ensure, as far as possible, that it balances its books in each financial year," a spokesman told CM.
