• The licence for one coach belonging to Mr A. C. Hepburn has been revoked by the Scottish Traffic Commissioners and an instruction has been given that any application with which Mr Hepburn is associated will be refused.

Mr Hepburn, who traded as Kelvin Coaches of Glasgow, had been called under Section 127(7) of the Road Traffic Act, 1960, and under Section 35(2) of the Transport Act, 1968, following a case last year at which, according to the chairman of the Commissioners, there were a "staggering lot of convictions".

Mr Hepburn said he had been a partner with his brother until two years ago in a firm called Glen Coaches but now, he said, he had had enough of coaches andwas getting out of transport. Glen Coaches, now run by his brother, Mr J. Hepburn, also appeared before the Commissioners.

The chairman, Mr A. B. Birnie, said that he had rarely had so muddled a tale and he found it difficult to believe some of the things he had heard. Mr Hepburn had claimed that when the offences had taken place he had been on holiday in Spain. Mr Birnie said that his decision to revoke the licence had been based entirely on the evidence of the convictions at Ayr in October last year.

Mr J. Hepburn was also called before the Traffic Commissioners because of a conviction in June last year. His company, Glen Coaches, he said, had not been convicted for over nine years until the conviction in June. The conviction was the result of the coach being used without a certificate of fitness.

Mr Birnie felt that there were some doubts about the company but he decided to grant an application for one vehicle but added that the application must be signed by Mr J. Hepburn.
