USSIAN VEHICLE PRODUCTION 7IGURES issued from Moscow show that last year a total of 370,500 road )ods vehicles and buses was produced the Soviet Union.

THERE are many unusual types of vehicles on the road, but we would imagine very few in which the engine has been removed and the drive taken from a compressor engine mounted on the chassis frame.

This is the case with a vehicle designed io suit the needs of the Southern Gas Board's distribution department. It was built by Powertruc, Ltd.

A standard Thames 15-cwt. chassis and cab is the basis of the unit, cut-away sections of standard roof and side pressings extending behind the cab where two seats are provided for the crew. A Ford 4D oil engine and an air compressor are drills, and on each side of the vehicle provision is made for carrying three standard lengths of gas pipes-this has necessitated cutting away part of the doors.

The space the engine would normally have occupied is used to carry a two-way radio set, the hand-brake lever having been moved to the right of the steering column.
