HALIFAX REFUSED TOURS A N application by Halifax Corporation to run more countryside -bus tours outside, the borough was refused by the Yorkshire Licensing Authority in Leeds. on Monday. The chairman, Maj. F. S. Eastwood, said no evidence of need had been produced.

Hebble Motor Services, Ltd., and Yorkshire Woollen District Transport Co., Ltd., said the corporation had not attempted to prove need within their own district for the tours to start outside it. There were five other objectors.

The corporation claimed that the providers of stage services were entitled to excursions.

Decision was deferred on an application by six Halifax operators to run four cheap "mystery tours" next summer. The applicants were Hebble, Messrs. James Hoyle and Son, 0. and C. HoIdsworth, Ltd,, Ripponden and District Motors, Ltd., Weightman's Tours, Ltd.; and Walton and Helliwell, all of whom had Objected to the corporation's application.

Halifax Joint Omnibus Committee and Messrs. Sheard and Sykes opposed the application.

An adjourned application by Messrs. Sheard and Sykes for permission to run excursions from Halifax was granted.

NO NEW BLACKWALL TUNNEL THERE wasno chance of the new Blackwall"tunnel under the Thames being included in the road programme for the next three years, the Minister of Transport told a deputation of Labour Members of Parliament on Tuesday.

A scheme to improve the northern approach to the tunnel was included in the programme announced in February. cl
