ClA T the present time IT is of interest to learn that an average of 130 c18 new factories are being completed in the British Isles each month, and this despite unsatisfactory industrial conditions.

One of the most recent is that at Coventry, where a large extension of the engine works of Morris Motors, Ltd., has been completed. Considerable economies have been effected in develciping this estate by laying out permanent roads of Ferrocrete, which take all the building traffic and will cafry the general traffic. A part of these roads is shown.

THE Pagefield vehicle shown at the Public Health Exhibition emb&lied a three-cylindered Gardner oil engine. This machine ran from Wigan to the Agricultural Hall (over 200 miles), using only nine gallons of oil, at 41d. per gallon. WHEN speaking recently to the Civil Service Motoring Association, Mr. Morrison confessed that since he had been Minister of Transport his driving had of necessity been reduced to the minimum, which, he said, was perhaps as well, because if he got into trouble it would make too good a story for the Press. Whether he would be the victim of one or other of his regulations under the new Act, time alone would tell.

We rather regret that it is unlikely that he will ever be in the position of the commercial-vehicle driver, as being caught in a few traps for slightly exceeding 30 m.p.h. in a coach would perhaps have the effect of showing him how futile is such a limit as this for the modern vehicle. WE recently requested a well-known maker to give us his opinion as to the position of the industry, and his reply was rather illuminating.

He asked us to imagine a pea-soup fog with only a starting handle and radiator showing in misty outline, and a pedestrian being left free to speculate as to what is behind that radiator and how far It will succeed in travelling through the fog before either disaster overtakes it or it emerges into a clearer atmosphere. The industry is at present suffering from a dense fog of trade depression and legislative interference, and until this lifts it is almost impossible to give an intelligent forecast of the future. The only thing certain is that road transport will persist and multiply.
