• Cannabis worth over £8.5m OR£11m1 was seized last week in Essex in an operation involving Irish and English police.

A container carrying three tonnes of cannabis, which had originated in South Africa, was allowed to proceed to Britain after Irish Customs had uncovered its cargo in Dublin Port. The container was consigned to England after a stop in Northern Ireland.

Packed in small parcels, the drug was hidden 60 separate boxes in the container when found. But the Irish contacted their counterparts in the UK and by agreement a truck was allowed to board a ferry with the cargo undi observation to its final destination.

When the drug lorry arrived I Harlow, Essex, the consignment va seized, and four British nationals wer arrested and detained under drug that ticking legislation.
