When a vehicle crosses a series of transverse grooves cut in the asphalt road surface a reaction is set up through the tyres which produces an audible warning to the driver. The f-in.-deep grooves are set at 24-in. pitch and a further series within the built-up area provides an additional reminder.
A sign indicates that an audible warning system is in use. Observation is being maintained of the device and a report is later to be prepared by the Borough Engineer of Huddersfield.
