of the constitution of Associated Road Operators, Ltd., which has been formed by the amalgamation of the Road Haulage Association and the Motor Hirers and Coach Services Association. As reported in our issue dated July 19,sections will be set up representing hauliers (including clearing houses), ancillary users and public-service-vehicle operators.

Management will be entrusted to a national council, comprising an equal cumber of representatives of each of the sections. In addition, there will be not more than five honorary officers and a lirnited number of coopted members. Each of the groups will have its own sectional board in the sub-areas, in the areas and nationally.

Local matters will, of course, be dealt witl . locally, and the area boards will transmit matters of national importance to the sectional board.

In the early stages„ the national council will consist of the prestat national council of the R.H.A. and an equal number Of representatives nominated by the M.H.C.S.A., to which will be added representatives of ancilhvy users. For the time being, the R.H.A. area committees and subarea committees will form the area and sub-area sectional boards of the hauliers' section.

The by-laws provide for . annual. elections, and the representatives will be elected from the sub-area sectional hoard to the area sectional board; from the area sectional board to the hauliers', passenger-vehicle operators', or ancillary users' sectional board, and from that to the national council.

operate by means of committees consisting of a small number of representatives of each section.

Greatly increased scope for the new Association's activities has been rendved possible by the amalgamation, and the individual benefits of membership will include:—

The establishment of offices in each area; legal defence in police courts; legal representation in 'Traffic Commissioners' and Licensing Authorities' courts at a fee not exceeding 16s.; free legal advice; specialized insurance scheme; direct representation in Parlia ment; the preparation and sukply of forms required by operators, at special rates, and the services of a panel of arbitrators, in cases of dispute.

All members of the R.H.A. and the M.H.C.S.A. will be entitled to membership of the new body without entrance fee or subscription until their present subscriptions expire.
