AA LONG altercation took place in the House of Commons last week during which the Minister of Transport's statement that 86 per cent. of British Road Services' assets so far offered had been sold was strongly challenged. The Minister, however, held to this figure.

He said that he had authorized the separate sales of premises in recognition that vehicles offered for sale with premises had not received the same response from buyers as vehicles without buildings.

Mr. Callaghan asked whether he had declined the representations of the Road Haulage Association that the highest of three bids should be accepted for any unit. The Minister replied that he had reminded R.H.A. of the constitutional position.

FORD TO QUIT BOMBAY

FOLLOWING the closing-down of the General Motors assembly plant in India, a move which was taken by the company rather than adapt themselves to the Government's "highly unrealistic" policy, the Ford factory at Bombay is to be wound up.
