Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

II right, I give up—this is the silliest picture sent to the Hawk for many a long moon. What on earth are those smartly tunic'd horse guards doing lined up in front of a brewery wagon—and are those drums full of ale?

Fortunately, there is an (almost) sensible explanation. It seems that, in conjunction with the 1994 Edinburgh Tattoo, the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, are re-enacting the 1934 recruitment drive when the Scots Greys trekked 200 miles over the highlands and lowlands to pick up likely lads for the military.

So where does the brewery wagon fit in to the plan? Is it carrying the necessary liquid inducement to persuade today's yob culture to sign on the doffed line for the Queen's shilling? Fortunately, not so. The vehicle has been supplied by Scottish & Newcastle Breweries and Hays Distribution to carry uniforms, bearskins and saddlery between points on the march.
