Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

By Chris Tindall BOALLOY EASTRUCK Bodies, the Stratford truck manufacturer whose fortunes were revived when transport icon Edward Stobart took over the reins two years ago, (Back in business', CM 14 February 2008) has gone into compulsory liquidation with a £.1.4m deficit.

The company is being wound up by the official receiver after creditor British Gas Trading presented a petition to the Royal Courts of Justice in London.

The decision means that tribunals that were scheduled to take place last week to hear payment claims by former staff have been cancelled. The Insolvency Service says that ills now "unlikely" that former employees will receive monies owed to them. including £18,000 in holiday pay.

Kevin Lawton, who is owed £10,000 after he lost his job in May, says: "The tribunal was all set to go on Friday (16 October), but now we are back to square one.

"There's disappointment due to the fact that there has been no communication from the firm.

"I would've known what was going on, from the horse's mouth, so to speak." Sharon Barlow, who was also made redundant in May, says that she has had to spend the money that she had put aside for a holiday to stay afloat financially. She says: "We shook Edward Stobart's hand at the end and told him he'd given it his best shot. We said thanks for giving it a go. It was on the understanding that we would be paid. That was back in May. I have heard nothing at all from the company."

Craig Pickering was director of the business until he resigned three days before staff were due to receive redundancy payments.

Along with Stobart. he is also a director of Stratford Vehicles, a company that makes horseboxes from the same premises as Boalloy Fastruck Bodies.

He tells CM he is unaware of why British Gas petitioned for a winding-up order. "I couldn't tell you," he says. "I wasn't involved. I was more involved in aftersales.

A spokeswoman for the official receiver says there is no money left in the business., so creditors are unlikely to receive a dividend.

She continues: "Edward Stobart has attended meetings with the official receiver and co-operated at all stages."

In an interview with Stobart conducted last year, he told CM he was confident we [Boalloy] can make some big changes that will have a big impact on the market': (CM 14 February 2008) Stobart did not respond as CM closed for press.
