iihe memorial service of Edwin Foden, great-grandson of one of the founding fathers of the great British trucking industry, was held on 5 October in the parish church of St Mary in Acton, near Nantwich. Edwin, who was 61, died after a long battle against cancer. He was the youngest son of JE (Ted) Foden, and before joining the company worked for engineering manufacturer Gardners. In the family business he pursued a career in sales. As head of export operations he secured business in several markets, including the Continent, Middle East, Africa and Australia, until the company was taken over in 1980. Before his illness he had been a consultant for Tachodisc. Edwin was a keen cricketer, and was wellknown and respected throughout the transport industry and in the community in Cheshire where he lived. The service was attended by family and friends, as well as business associates and representatives from the county cricket league. He is survived by his wife and their son and daughter.
