Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Sainsbury's supermarket distribution centre at Charlton in South London has received approval from the Vehicle Inspectorate to become an HGV annual test station.

From 2 November, Sainsbury's fleet of 50 tractor units and 93 trailer units at the depot will be tested on site. It will also accept other operators' vehicles

for testing. • Other services offered there will include pre-testing of brakes, headlight alignment, smoke emissions and external vehicle washing.

The MOT station will be open from 08:00hrs to 15:00hrs Monday to Wednesday, and will offer all the usual test facilities.

Dennis Glasspool, motor engineering manager at Charlton, says: "Our facility will be open to any vehicle in the country. The Vehicle Inspectorate will also route other vehicles through to us for testing."

Glasspool's division is the first Sainsbury's depot to offer this facility, since Charlton has Sainsbury's only "in-house" maintenance department.

To begin with only a few operators will be able to get their vehicles tested at the Sainsbury's site, but Glasspool plans to expand the operation if it is successful.
