• At a meeting of the Association of Municipal Transport Officers last Friday, Col H. V. N. Smith. of the mechanical engineering division of the DoE. said, in reference to the proposed regulations for plating and testing of Municipal vehicles (CM October 15). that the Department was now considering amendments submitted by the AMTO and other interested bodies.

These amendments are (1) that the proposed operative date should be postponed from January 1 1972 to April 1 1972 and that the date for completion of testing should be changed from April 1 1973 to April 1 1974: (2) that local authorities should be allowed to select their own vehicles for submission to the test centre in the order of their choice.

Chairman of AMTO. Mr Gordon East, foresaw an additional 200 vehicles a month going to the three test centres used by the London boroughs and he doubted if these stations could cope with the extra load. Col Smith said that the DoE was satisfied that the centres would be able to handle the additional municipal vehicle load.
