Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A weather-resisting product — centigard chassis X — has been developed by Walkers (Century Oils) Ltd which, it is claimed, should enable commercial vehicle chassis to be stored indefinitely in the open at garages without any fear of weather damage.

The substance can be applied either by spray or by brush to form a permanent and unbroken seal over the chassis and is removed by white spirit.

Less than 2gal of Centigard Chassis X is needed for each unit to be protected. It is claimed to be harmless to rubber and sealing solutions, and to be safe to use on all chassis parts, chrome and on coachwork. It acts as a filler in weld joints and can be painted over to form a weather-proof joint.

Truck-mounted cranes

lowered by the vehicle's own 12 or 24V electrical system, a iew truck-mounted hoist, the )1-A Electricrane, capable of lfting 2204Ib 11 metric ton) at a adius of 6ft (1.83m), is being narketed in the South of Mgland and South Wales by rVilliam R. Se!wood Ltd.

The crane dispenses with the iydraulic tank, pump, motors, .ulnerable -plumbing" and lexible hoses, and often ,omplicated pto arrangements iormelly associated with lorryriounted hoisting gear, instead, he P1 -A Electricrane is simply onnected by built-in wiring to tie battery of the vehicle. When n full load, the current drawn y the crane is only approxi

ately at 12V.

The equipment, which weighs .50Ib (206kg), can be located nywhere convenient; in the ases of light-duty vehicles, this rould usually be in a central osition, just aft of the driving ab. To take the utmost Jvantage of the crane's ability lift 1470Ib I666.79kg) at a idius of no less than 8ft l.44m), side mounting of the 1-A Electricrane is recom'ended, with the available ming-up stabilizer fitted. Many her positions and lifts are also possible with this crane.

Installation is by four bolts, through the base-plate of the stoutly-webbed, large-diameter king-post to the truck platform or body floor and can be so arranged that the P 1-A Electricrane can be quickly transferred between vehicles; including connecting up to the battery, provision of a vehiclestrengthening sub-frame where necessary, and of a stabilizer if required. It is estimated by Se'wood that fitting would cost £20 to £35.

Maintenance of the P1-A Electricrane is confined to inspection of the hoisting gearbox oil-level, via the combined filler-plug and dipstick; attention at long intervals to easily reached grease-gun points and periodic check on hoisting rope condition.

Automatic chassis cleaning

An automatic vehicle chassis cleaning system has been introduced by Chassis-Clean Ltd.

The cleaning unit comprises a wheeled trolley which traverses beneath a stationary vehicle at a speed of 1ft per minute, powered by electric winch gear. Cold water — with no additives — is delivered at a pressure of 350 psi from jets in an oscillating nozzle head.

This pressure is high enough to clean efficiently with no risk of damage to wiring or paintwork. The nozzle head is mounted on a swinging-arm assembly attached to the trolley which swings to and fro under the vehicle as the trolley moves. The unit can be mounted either on the floor or in a channel.

The unit is entirely pneumatically operated, using Scovill /Schrader air equipment. Air cylinders operate the oscillating nozzle, swinging arm, and a double-acting reciprocating cylinder working at 60 strokes per minute delivers the cold water. The cylinders are controlled by six air valves, and the unit works from an 80 psi supply at 3-4 cfm.

Another advantage of the overall system is that it is self-contained, using a re-cycling water circuit. Sludge is filtered and dried and removed for disposal in special pits.

Autofare System

The 0-99 version of the Autofare System developed for interurban operators and other bus companies who need more than a maximum scale of 10 fares has been announced by Bell Punch Co Ltd.

The overall size of the separate units of the Autofare System and the 0-99 version is not affected.
