Animal Power or Motor?

The Editor, '` Tim COMMERCIAL MOTOR."

Sir :—In view of the question of street congestion, I enclose a small photo which I took on Westminster Bridge. It shows a portable engine being drawn by seven horstee and there was also another horse and wagon carrying the funnel and sundry other parts. Surely, it could have been done much more quickly and cheaply with a tractor, and would not have taken up nearly as much room, As a matter of fact, it seemed totally to disorganise the traffic wherever it

went.—Yours obediently, H. IV. MAsoN. London.

Motor Depot Management.

The Editor, " THE COMMERCIAL MOTOR."

Sir :—I was greatly intertsted in the article entitled " Motor Depot Management," which appeared in your issue of last week, and was glad to see how far Lico could be made to go in the equipment of such a depdt. It appears to me, as an owner of motor vehicles, that much money would have been saved had an article of this character appeared at an earlier date. I do not overlook the excellent series which was published in one of your earliest volumes, or the hints which you gave in your motorcab issue, but all of those were on a much more ambitious scale. It is gratifying, now, to realise that one can take in hand the majority

of running repairs, including periodic overhauls, withc laying out appreciably more than the sum which you ha

indicated.—Yours faithfully, " ECONOMY. ' 26th October, 1908.
