WHAT ROBIN KNOX-Johnston calls "sailing's answer to the boxing ring" is being sponsored by Volvo Truck and Bus (Great Britain) — perhaps as an answer to DAF Trucks' promotion of boxing. It is a "match racing yachting series" — the idea of Richard Edwards, of Caledonian Marine Agencies (Troon) — in which 64 crews compete in two identical J24 boats.
The event, which Robin is directing at Troon, will continue until September 4 When the final will take place. It publicises the Volvo Parts Plus service and is said to be the first open matchstyle event ever held in the UK.
