Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

PROGRESS with half-cab designs of car transporter by Carter Engineering Co. (Tamworth) Ltd., originally referred to in our issue of March 6, is reported in two applications this week. These are an eight-car outfit developed by Carter to the instructions of A. and C. McLennan Ltd. of Spittalfields, Perthshire, and a design for a 12-car transporter shown in the drawing below.

The McLennan outfit, which is operated by these Rootes distributors. for Perthshire, comprises a close-coupled four-wheeled two-car trailer hauled by a Commcr Avenger on which McLennan has built a tandem cab with room for a car alongside it. The car-carrying structure and electric vehicle lift are of the familiar Carter type.

The McLennan company is prepared to supply similar sixor eight-car transporters complete, painted and signwritten. for £4,895, less the usual discounts; this is for an eight-car carrier with the Routes

two-stroke diesel engine, 6-speed gearbox and goods vehicle springs.

The proposed Carter 12-car Carveyor is shown diagrammatically below, this. too. having a cab narrow enough for a car to be carried alongside it whilst still providing room for a mate in addition to the driver (as the small left-hand drawing shows). Carter Engineering recommends that a transporter of this size should have

heavy-daty underfloor-engined chassis with an engine • of at least nine litres capacity. such as a Leyland Leopard, an A.E.t" . Reliance or a 6LX-engined Atkinson. In this way,.chassis life would match that of the Carveyor equipment, this being estimated as 10 years.
