Ma. WILFRED HILL has been appointed chairman of the Birmingham and Midlands Area Branch of the Institute of Export, whilst Ma. W. T. DOWNES becomes vice-chairman.
Mn. F. W. CREWS becomes secretary of the Institute of Transport as from June 1. He joined the staff of the Institute in April, 1927, was appointed assistant secretary in 1935, and has been acting secretary since the retirement of Mr. A. WINTER GRAY last year.
VIStOTINT RIDLEY, C.B.E., has been appointed Director of Producer-gas Vehicles in the Ministry of War Transport to supervise the development and equipment of producer-gas vehicles and other possible means for securing immediate economy in oil fuel by the use of alternative fuels in road vehicles.
MR. G. H. BROOK, who for the duration of the war has given up his duties as secretary of the C.M.U.A.'s North-eastern Division to undertake full-time work in the National Fire Service, now holds the rank of column officer. This promotion from senior company officer is recognition of his responsibilities as transport officer in charge of vehicles and appliances in No. 4 Fire Force Area of the•N.F.S,
MR. G. LINDSEY, of Tingley, near Leeds, has been re-elected chairman of the Livestock Carriers' Section of A.R.O.'s Yorkshire Area. MR. L. DUGDALE, of Nelson, continues in the office of vice-chairman, and the following have been elected to represent the Section ort the Area's Haulage Sectional Board: Messis. G. Lindsey, J. C. Ashworth (Bradford) and W. Grasby (Hull).
MR. J. S. IsTscuoLL, C.B.E., chief executive officer of McNamara and Co., Ltd., has been elected president of the Institute of Transport for the year 1942-43. He has occupied this office during the current year, and had previously served as a Member of Council from 1934-7 and as vice-president from 1937 40.
