He will speak at the Angel Hotel, Hanley, on June 11, at 7 p.m., and, next day, at the White Horse Hotel, Congreve Street, Birmingham, at 7.30 p.m. Both meetings will be held by A.R.O.

C.M.U.A. Committees Elected at Three New Centres.

'New sub-areas of the West Midland Division of the C.M.U.A. have recently been inaugurated at Walsall, • Redditch and Stratford-on-Avon. In each of these places committees have now been formed, and the following have been elected to serve:—

Walsall, chairman, Mr. S. Abbott (Bloxwien rransport Co.); committee: Metric. Coldbatch, Fern, Pritchard, Walker, C. Jones, Pendill and Bolton.

Redditch, chairman, Mr. Foster; committee: Messrs. Day, Mawby, Swain, Whyton and Smith. Stratford-on-Avon, chairman, Mr. C, Blake (Messrs. Blake and Son): boo, secretary, Mr. N. C. Make; committee: Messrs. Briseley, Langston, Pritchard, Keasey and Collicatt.

Sheffield I.T.A. Appointments.

At the annual meeting of the Sheffield District branch of the Industrial Transport Association, the following officials were elected:—

Cornish Hauliers Fix Sand Rates.

Stabilized rates for the haulage of sea sand from North Cornwall were announced at a well-attended open meeting of hauliers interested in the transport of this class of load, at Camelford, last week. Mr. Humphrey Cooke, St. Austell, took the chair. The meeting was held under the auspices of A.R.O., and was the sequel to a meet ing at DelaboIe, on April 1, at which it was decided to set up a committee to fix rates for the haulage of sea sand.

The report of the committee was presented by Mr. Williams, of Delabole, who stated that it was ultimately decided that rates should he on a tonnage basis over mileage as the crow flies. The rates varied from 1s. 9d. per ton for a one-mile haul to 9s. 6d. per ton for a 30-mile journey. The report was adopted.

The rates are to be circulated to all operators in Cornwall, and will come into operation on October 1 next.

WESTERN CHAIRMAN RETIRES.

Capt. J. W. Jones, chairman of A.R.O. Western Area, has, for health reasons, been obliged to tender his resignation. Capt. Jones has heel' chairman since 1932. He will continue to represent the area on the National Council and will remain a 'member of the Regional Committee.

At a recent meeting Mr. G. Smart (Smart Transport Co.) was elected chairman and Mr. A. F. Wills (secretary and director of Bristol Haulage Co.) and Mr. H. W. Adams (H. W. Adams Co.), vice-chairman.
