ARONOR, the French eight depot chain, is aiming to open the first Lase of a commercial develintent and truckstop at mirg-en-Bresse in eastern ance early next year.

Clark says the truckstop is the catalyst for other developments on the site, starting with warehousing for local distribution, a hypermarket, livestock market, a rail link, a hotel and a housing estate.

Total cost of the truckstop development is FFr45 million (14.3 million), while the total first phase (including warehousing/distribution facilities) will cost FFr80 million.

The Bourg-en-Bresse site is the latest link in a chain of Garonor depots which began with the wholly-owned Aulnay sous Bois site opened near Paris in 1967.

It is represented in Britain by the Milton Freight Terminal, near Oxford, a site at Portbury, Bristol and by a warehouse development south of Leeds.

When details of the Leeds and Bristol developments were announced six years ago. Garonor said it also wanted to build at least one major transfer terminal in Greater London.

According to Clark, Garonor is keen to add another British depot. "French hauliers are not prepared to go north of Birmingham,he says.
