Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AN interesting loading device particularly adaptable for use by ;farmers has been invented by Mr. Alastair C. Stewart, of Crianlarich. It comprises a skeleton base constructed of light steel angles and bars, and an upper platform, the two being coupled together by light, but strong, links so devised that they allow the upper platform to be lifted and lowered, but maintain it always in a horizontal position.

The apparatus is coupled to the lorry by two struts and a couple of wire cables over guide pulleys, and attached to the barrel of a winch.

The two extreme positions which the device can take up are : folded flat against the back of the lorry, occupying the position usually taken by a tailboard. and Rat upon the ground with the platform nesting within the lower framework, so that the platform is only an inch or two above ground level.

When required for use, the loader is placed in the latter position. The two struts shown in the accompanying illustration are let down so as to hold the lower framework firmly to the ground. If it be required for loading, the load can be run on to or placed upon the platform.

A turn of the winch handle will elevate the platform and the load can be slid or run on to the lorry. When loading is completed, the struts are removed and further rotation of the winch will haul the device up to the position first described. For unloading, the series of operations is reversed.

The device may he employed with or without sides, and its uses are varied. Inquiries concerning it should , be addressed, in the first instance, to Albion Motors, Ltd., Scotstoun, Glasgow, W.4.
