kevin.swatErywrarbi.co.uk GERMAN TRUCK manufacturer MAN has unveiled a new efficiency package that it claims will cut the fuel bill of long-haul operators The Consistently Efficient package (as it is currently branded) will be officially launched at the IAA Show in Hanover in September.

Frederic Jakowatz. head of product strategy and truck management, says the fuel bill is the largest outgoing of any transport company, and that MAN's package will save long-haul operators 2.6 litres every 100km. Priced at 0,500 (£2.918), he says the package will pay for itself within 12 months.

To achieve the fuel saving, MAN has several new initiatives, including: deactivating the air compressor with a multi-disc clutch when the truck is cruising so it's only working 10% of the time; a more powerful. longer-lasting genera

tor; and low-watt daytime lights for impending EU legislation.

These are combined with established specifications like aluminium air reservoir, TipMatic transmission with the Eco lntarder, airmanagement kit, alloy wheel& chassis panelling. energy tyres. driver training, reducing maximum speed to 85kmili, and specifying onboard diagnostics.

• MAN will expand its rental operation into the UK next year to compete directly against B RS, which offers a similar service for owners Volvo and Renault.

MAN Rental is already available through MAN Financial Services in the UK, and Thomas Conseil, head of business unit, rental, says the new business will have a broader offering including shortand long-term rental. Longerterm deals, anything more than 12 months, will allow operators the option to add livery.
