These regulate the applications that can be made to the Secretary of State for EC Type Approval for light passenger vehicles and other types of vehicles—effective 1 January 1993 and 1 January 1996 depending on the type of vehicle.

• IMMINENT LEGISLATION: A bill before Parliament proposes to amend the Road Traffic Act 1988, requiring newly qualified drivers to display plates indicating that they are recently qualified and limiting the engine size of the vehicles that they may drive.However, it is not known when this will become law.
