Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A LORRY DRIVER has been jailed for nine years following the discovery of heroin with a street value of E1.8m hidden underneath his cab unit.

Anthony Connolly from Liverpool pleaded guilty to smuggling 40kg of the drug after UK Border Agency officials swooped on his vehicle at Dover port in September. He was returning from Holland with a consignment of beer.

Officers asked Connolly to tilt his cab forward and found the engine block covered in lead flashing. Beneath the lead were two holdalls containing brown wrapped packages of heroin.

A spokeswoman for HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) says the driver was not an owner-driver and worked for a UK-based haulage company.

Malcolm Bragg, HMRC investigation director, says: 'The sentence handed down by the court will act as a deterrent to those involved in drug trafficking and it clearly shows that crime doesn't pay."
