• The Chief Constable of Northampton County Police Authority, Mr J. A. H. Gott, was elected to the national executive committee of the Lorry Driver of the Year Competition in London on Tuesday. Mr Gott, who has been prominent in motor sport for a number of years, was elected chairman of the stewards for this year's National Final which takes place at Bramcote, Northants, on September 12.
The United Road Transport Union is to present a set of text books to the 1971 champion driver. This is in addition to the European Study Tour Award which is to be sponsored by the Michelin Tyre Co Ltd.
At this year's final there will be three test lanes; this has been done to ensure that the competition is completed by 5 pm. The new lay-out will require 14 teams of marshals and these are to be supplied by centres in Scotland. Coventry, South Wales, Torbay, Birmingham, Leeds, York, Oxford, Portsmouth and Bristol. Mr John Paul, of the South of Scotland Electricity Board, has been appointed chief marshal.
There are possibilities that eliminating centres for 1971 will be established at Brighton, the Isle of Wight and Sheffield. This would bring the total of centres for the current year to 38. The committee was also told that the road safety officers at Guernsey and Jersey had shown some interest in the establishment of an event in the Channel Islands.
