AACASE of much interest was heard at Preston earlier in the month, when Killingbcck (Transport), Ltd., Blackburn, sought to justify an additional A-licensed vehicle on evidence based on traffic from the Yorkshire and Eastern Areas.
The carriage of root vegetables for a Lancashire customer from Lincolnshire and the surrounding' counties had increased, but an application for a shortterm licence was originally refused by the North Western Licensing Authority in order that hauliers from the areas concerned should be given the chance of doing the work.
Evidence was given that it had been offered to Yorkshire and Eastern Area hauliers, and that approaches made to the Road Haulage Association were with out result. .
The hearing stands adjourned, but in such a position the advantage of publishing applications for additional vehicles not only in the hauliers' own Traffic Area but also in the Area from which the traffic emanates can clearly be seen. Despite the efforts that have been made, many hauliers who might be concerned have probably never heard of the application.
On the other hand, there is a good argument that a person requiring transport and living in the north-west should he entitled to choose a local haulier if he so desires.
