voun correspondent J.A.D. in writing his letter on 1 the above subject published in your issue of January 8, has surely overlooked sub paragraph 2 of Section 1, of the Road and Rail Traffic Act, 1933,

(2) of Part I of the Road and Rail Traffic Act, 1933, says:—" the expression 'goods vehicle' means a motor vehicle constructed or adapted for use for the carriage of goods . . . . ". Goods vehicles, of course, require to be licensed as such and it seems that Mr. Walker is querying the legality of the use of a public service vehicle for the carrying of Christmas mail. In his letter J.A.D. stated that at South Shields, buses were used for this purpose and the scats were removed to allow the parcels to be stacked in sacks at each side. leaving the usual gangway for the crew to work in.—Ea]
