Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

APEDESTRIAN crossing supervised by a traffic warden remains an uncontrolled crossing in the absence of a policeman. This was the effect of a decision given by Wolverhampton magistrates last week, when a driver was fined £3 for failing to accord precedence to a pedestrian on an uncontrolled crossing. Defending, Mr. G. J. B. Thorne submitted that the presenee of a warden caused the crossing to be controlled. The law stated that a zebra crossing was controlled when there was a policeman on it, but this must include wardens, otherwise "the law was nonsense," said

Mr. Thorne. .

-He contended that there was no case to answer, and said: "If the crossing is uncontrolled, then the warden is insignificant." He alleged.. that the warden displayed his "Stop—Children Crossing" sign sideways on to approaching traffic and contended that this gave _drivers the right of way.

The chairman stated: "We take the view that as there was no police officer controlling the crossing, it was uncontrolled."
