New Malden U.D.C. intends to e purchase a first-aid motor fireengine.

Nothing Definite.

Wolverhampton Town Council has so far done " nothing definite" with regard to the purchase of a motor fire-engine, according to a recent statement by the Mayor, Greenock Asks for Qaotations.

At a meeting of the Greenock Corporation, eulogistic reference was made to the recent tests of the of the Dundee motor fire-engines. The Fire Engines Committee was instructed to obtain quotations and report to the corporation.

Expert Advice for Newport.

Newport (Mon.) Town Council lute confirmed the purchase of a Commercar Simonis fire engine, and the vehicle has been ordered after submission of the several tenders received to Mr. G. W. Watson, M. I. M ech. E. , M. Inst. A Barnsley Wants Help.

Barnsley Town Council, probably influenced by the successful working of the fleet of vehicles belonging to the Barnsley British Co-operative Society, Ltd., is moving towards the purchase of a motor fire-engine. It is hoped to obtain contributions from certain district councils.

Swansea's Dilemma.

At. a recent fire at Gowerton, seven miles from Swansea, when a handsome chapel was gutted, the Swansea brigade was unable to render any assistance owing to the frosty state of the roads. It is universally agreed that there is eeed for a motor fire-engine, and tile chief constable of Swansea, Captain Colquhorm, hopes that the county and the borough authorities will join hands in the matter of providing the necessary funds. Eastbourne's Dennis to Come.

' Captain J. A. Hounsom, the chief of the Eastbourne Fire Brigade, will later in the year benefit by the addition to his equipment of a Dennis engine. The tender of Dennis Bros., Ltd., was accepted at the last meeting of the Borough Cou ncil.

-1,1Z Monmouth Moving.

Monmouth Town Council hopes to be able to acquire a. motor fireengine : the Mayor, Councillor E. A. Jones, J.P., and Mr. E. T. A. Williams, of Backfield House, near Monmouth, are keen supporters of the movement in favour of this upto-date equipment.

Increases at Birmingham.

In consequence of the greater area of the district now under the supervision of the Birmingham Fire Brigade, the Watch Committee of that city is in favour of the acquirement of much additional plant. The purchase of six new motor fireengines has been recommended, and of these three will be required at the earliest possible moment.

American Experience. . -

During one month 14 motor fireappliances answered 141 alarms given at the station in Birmingham,

Ala., U.S.A. During this period, 460 gallons of petrol were consumed; together with 20 gallons of lubricating oil ; 39 hours were spent in practice. The total cost was £13 5s., which averages 19s. 9d. per unit,

"The Aldershot News" of the 17th inst. reports a lengthy discussion by members of the Farnborough U.D.C. anent the purchase of a. motor fire-engine. instead of purchasing a new engine, the old one is—by a majority of five votes to four—to be repaired. Residents in the district will probably not be reassured by the discussion, from which we quote : Colonel Ruttledge, addressing the superintendent of the brigade: "Are you prepared, if an alarm was given now, that the fire-escape was, required at the other end, to do ?"
