• Tyneside Passenger Transport Executive has made a profit of £33,000 this year, compared with an estimated loss of £426,000. The PTE had expected a three per cent drop in passengers but this has not materialized. The present surplus has been achieved after, setting aside sums for new buses and other equipment. For the coming year, it is thought there will be a deficit of £735,000, due partly to increases in bus prices, value-added tax and a new shift allowance for bus crews.
