and A. M. Harvey and Senator Transport, of Holcombe, Somerset, had to pay £48 in fines at Radstock last week when they pleaded guilty to two cases of failing to notify change of ownership, three of using lorries without excise licences, one of making a false declaration to obtain an excise licence, and one of aiding and abetting a driver to drive a lorry without a licence.
A police witness said the lorries were bought by B. F. and A. M. Harvey in June from a Bath firm. An application was made to Somerset County Council for a licence for one of the vehicles and a declaration was signed that it had not been used since the previous licence had expired. The change of ownership had been notified by the firm of distributors but not by the new owners. The defence was that it had been assumed that the vehicle was licensed for the full year.
For Senator Transport, Mr. Barrington Harvey, a director, said: "We had a breakdown and as it was the only transport I had to do something in a hurry."
