Training and Enterprise Councils (TECs) feature prominently across the region; they are split into two geographical areas: South East Wales TEC and West Wales TEC. The TECs focus on staff training and run the Investors In People standard. Here, emphasis is put on staff development; for example, advice is available about staff training.
Youth apprenticeships can also be arranged, and in some cases subsidies are available.
The TECs also offer Individual Learning Accounts: people aged 1963 in part-time, full-time or self employment, might be eligible for one-off .£150 payments to help with vocational training costs.
Training grants are also available from the European Social Fund; these can meet up to 45% of training costs.
Haulage firms could be eligible for grants from the European Regional Development Fund. Priority goes to the manufacturing sector, but this stands to benefit service companies in the region.
