East London main dealer Dagenham Motors holds franchises for the Iveco Truck and Ford CV ranges. As part of the Polar Croup it has outlets at Barking, Hayes and Chelmsford, each with a stock of used vehicles across the range.

Truck sales consultant Steve Jenkins says: "We get a lot of interest for the Super Cargo 17-tonner. Its light chassis gives an advantage in payload over much of the opposition and we can uprate the chassis to 18 tonnes. Demand is most prominent for the 230hp model, which has the better reputation for fuel economy, from customers seeking both new and used examples. We do still see some 180hp models.

"In the main used models have steel suspensions, but we expect that to change as the present generation of 18-tonners feed through to the second-time buyer," he predicts. "Sleeper-cab models generate a lot of interest—they provide greater operational flexibility and remain competitive on payload with most other makes fitted with day cabs. Curtainsider and box bodies are the most readily available but flatbeds are hard to find. The interior cab trim update from about 1998 is a bit darker and harder wearing. We refurbish used models where necessary; the only reason we want to see them back is for routine servicing.

"A 1997 R-reg curtain-sided 170E23, with warranty, will fetch about 219,000," Jenkins reports. "Typical mileage will be around 170,000km."
