Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A power-operated version of the 0331 /S manually actuated load simulator has been developed by the maker, CryptonTriangle Ltd, Bristol Road, Bridgwater, Somerset. The manual type has been employed by the Department of the Environment at testing stations over the past three years and a powered unit was developed at the request of the DoE.

Known as the EB31 /PS the powered version costs £.1334 compared with a price of £855 for the manual simulator. Used

in conjunction with a Crypton-Triangle brake tester, the new unit is capable of exerting an additional load on the vehicle axle of 6 tons, the maximum applicable load of the manual simulator being 5 tons. The pump and controls of the EB31 /S are replaced by an air-powered pack and the structure is stiffened by a pair of struts. It is claimed that power operation reduces the time required for testing as well as the physical effort.
