Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Plans for a city-circle bus service in Manchester to link the rail terrninii and some of the main shopping and business areas is being considered by SELNEC PTE.

The precise route is still to be determined and further studies are being made on the destinations of travellers from Piccadilly and Victoria rail stations.

A pre-requisite of a successful service is adequate standing for buses at each rail station, so that the vehicles are easily visible and accessible to potential passengers as they leave the stations, and negotiations are in hand with British Rail to achieve this.

The proposed flat fare of 2p would not cover the operating costs, but the Executive believes the new service operated by radio-controlled mini-buses such as the Seddon-, on a five-minute frequency would bring in additional revenue by persuading more motorists to use buses for their journey. The service will start in January/ February 1974 and is intended to increase the total efficiency of commuter services both rail and bus to the city centre.
