STAGtiERED school holidays, the three-shift system for urgent work, support for the National Productivity Year, and the specification of fuel supplied for road vehicles are among recommendations in the 12 resolutions to be discussed on Tuesday, October 16, at the Annual Conference of the Road Haulage Association at. Bournemouth.

From the Southern Area comes a resolution that the Ministry of Transport institute clearways on all A roads except in built-up areas. Introduced by the Public Relations Committee is a resolution that, welcoming the idea of National Productivity Year, the Association and all its members should do all they can to make it a success. Also from the West Midland Area comes the resolution that suppliers of fuel oil for all road vehicles should make available to the road haulage industry the specification of fuel supplied.

A resolution from the Scottish Area is that consideration should be given by the Association to the publication of a handbook or manual with sections devoted to common trade practices in the various types of traffic, simple interpreta

tion and explanation of the various regulations, advice on and examples of costing methods and other matters considered useful to inembers From the Metropolitan and South Eastern Area comes a resolution that the Association inquire into the impact of town and country planning on the road transport industry.

Introduced by the Devon and Cornwall Area is a resolution that the conference recommends the examination of the merits or otherwise of profit-sharing or co-partnership schemes. The last resolution, from the Southern Area, is that the Construction and Use Regulations he amended so as to require the fitting of a dual braking system to all new vehicles exceeding three tons unladen weight.

The social programme at the conference includes a civic reception on the evening of October 16 by the Mayor of Bo urn emouth, Councillor A. E. Adams, and a banquet and ball on the evening of October 17 at which the principal guest will be the Rt. Hon. Martin Redmayne, M.P., who will reply to the toast of H.M.
