THE West Midland Traffic Commis

' sioners have authorized the Binninglam and Midland Motor Omnibus Co., -td., to increase the number of vehicles M the Nuneaton and Coventry to -ondon motorway service. British Railways objected to the applisa.tion in which the company sought to ncrease the daily vehicle allowance with :xtra coaches at week-ends and special ioliday periods. Midland Red claimed that potential )assengers were being turned away )ecause there were not enough services to neet the demand. They asked for extra vehicle allowance .o increase existing services by six on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays throughnit the year; to enable two extra journeys o be made on other week-days during he spring and summer and six additional mrvices during holiday periods on Christnas, Easter and Whitsuntide.

In a written decision on Monday the

Commissioners granted the application in • part. They said the public needs could be.best met by granting the Midland Red their two eXtra , daily 'vehicles from Monday to Thursday. in July and August, but only allowing them an extra two on Saturdays in June, July and August. The six journeys asked for on Fridays and Sundays in July and August were granted, but only four of the six applied for on the same days in June and September were .authorized. During the rest of the year the Commissioners granted an increase of two services, four less than asked for in the application, Additional holiday facilities were granted except on the Thursday before Whit Saturday which would remain as a normal week-day. Of the objectors' case the Commissioners commented "None the less, the rival facilities cannot be ignored and we believe it to be in the public interest to give them some measure of protection."
