Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A New Design Which Incorporates Several Novel and Desirable Features

A NEW tipping gear, for which several advantages over

existing types are claimed, is being produced by the Carley Tipping Gear Co., Ltd„ 36, Clegg Street, Oldham. The basic design aims at ease of construction, a reduction in the number of component parts and, equally important, the application of the lifting. force at progressively advantageous points on the tipping body.

This last-named feature -may be appreciated from the accompanying illustration, which also shows the extremely compact nature of the whole assembly. It will be seen that the ramrod ha,, a T-shaped cross-bead, arranged between two triangular plates which serve to form the lever.

These plates are pivotally" mounted at the bottom, and, at the top, are provided with rollers, which run -in channel-. section guides. As will be appreciated, such a design-provides for a considerable advantage in leverage in the initial stages of the lift, as the actual effort is applied at a point \Sell •back from the pivotal point of the tipping body. In the Carley tipping gear the static oil container surrounds the tam cylinder, a form of construction which makes not only for ease of assembly, but has the desirable effect of cutting out a certain amount of high-pressure pipe work.

If .desired, the gear can be fitted direct to the frame of the chassis, hut possibly a more convenient Method, in the majority of cases, would be the employment of a sub-frame.

The approximate weight of the whole unit is 240 lb., and

the lifting time, from the horizontal to frill angle of tilt, is 10 secs. We understand that arrangements are well in hand for its production and that the provisional price has been fixed at 130.

We are advised that the gear has been subjected to vigorous tests at the bands of several operators during the past six months, and we have every reason to believe that the results obtained have been satisfactory,
