Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ALL the 21 vehicles taking part in the French "Rallye des Carburants Nationaux," a demonstration of motor fuels other than petrol, returned safely to Paris after their 12 days' run through various districts of France. As the event was not in the nature of a competition, there was no general classification.

The technical committee of the Automobile Club de France will, however, issue a report on the " Rallye " in due course. This report should be of interest, as it will contain detailed observations by members of the committee B40 and other qualified officials who followed the trials on the behaviour of the vehicles.

The participating cars and lorries included :—Two Peugeots using Ketol, two military vehicles using Carburant National, two Fords using compressed acetylene, two Berliets using wood fuel, two Renaults using the same, two Panhards using charcoal fuel, two Vehicles " X" using Cosinoline, one De Dion using Carbonite compressed pellets, one Peugeot using compressed gas, one Renault motor coach using wood fuel. one Peugeot using the Auto

gas generator, one `Citron using Le Gaulois process (paraffin and acetylent), one Ford also employing this process, and one Panhard using Carbonito.

The one regulation with regard to fuels emploied was that they should all be of French national origin. This seems a mild enough rule when it is remembered that the Var and other departments of France produce petroleum.

TJpon their return to Paris the vehicles were lined up and exhibited in the Place de la Concorde in front of the A.C.F.
