Villagers name and shame major hauliers

HAULIERS ARE BEING targeted in a 'Name and Shame' campaign by a Shropshire village because they are using its roads 'unnecessarily'.

Audlem village's website claims vehicles from Eddie Stobart, Norbert Dentressangle, Marks & Spencer and Culina Logistics have all used the A525 after it was removed from the primary route network earlier this year. The website encourages people to take photographs that can be published online to "expose" other operators even though 1-10 Vs are not banned from the route.

A Marks & Spencer spokesperson tells CM: "If any third parties have any concerns we would be happy to hear these through our normal communication channels We are currently investigating the route to see if there are any possible alternatives."

Meanwhile, Culina has acted swiftly to address the matter. It tells CM it was an isolated incident involving an agency driver and that drivers are instructed not to use the route through Audlem.

A Cana spokeswoman adds: "We take issues such as these very seriously. We work with local councils to ensure that we respect their endeavours."

Audlem Parish Council declined to comment.
